SDXC card not recognized

Question:

I recently purchased a 64GB SDXC card. It is not recognized properly by my computer or camera. Is there some type of compatibility issue?

Answer:

There are three versions of the Secure Digital standard:

  • SD – Secure Digital v1.0/1.1 (Secure Digital Standard Capacity) – supports card capacities up to 2GB
  • SDHC – Secure Digital v2.0 (Secure Digital High Capacity) – supports card capacities from 4GB up to 32GB
  • SDXC – Secure Digital v3.0 (Secure Digital Extended Capacity) – supports card capacities from 64GB up to 2TB
