RUSH 3.0 16GB USB Flash Drive is only running at USB 2.0 Speeds 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
I've installed a USB 3.0 card on my computer and my USB 3.0 Seagate 1.5 TB portable drive runs much faster plugged into my USB 3.0 ports than when plugged into a USB 2.0 port so I know that the card at least works for the Seagate drive. When I plug my RUSH 3.0 16 GB USB Flash Drive into the same USB 3.0 port that I use with my Seagate drive I can't get USB 3.0 Speeds I do get absolute maximum USB 2.0 performance but I really wanted to get 3.0 perf! Any help appreciated. I checked your drivers sections and read through your FAQ's but could not find anything that shed any light on this issue.

Regards

What are the read/write speeds for your drive? Have you tested with disk utility such as h2testw or ATTO Disk Benchmark? If not, please do and post back your results. They should be at least close to our published spec (60MB/s read & 60MB/s write) for the DSR16GB3-001.

Hi,

Yes, I have tested with HDTune Pro 4.5 and have found the read/write speeds to be as fast as the USB 2.0 specification allows. (~30 MB/s read and write, I can attach a screenshot if you would like) However I purchased this Flash Drive with the expectation that I would be able to plug it in to a USB 3.0 port and achieve USB 3.0 performance. Unfortunately I still see the same speeds regardless of if I plug the flash drive into a USB 2.0 port or a USB 3.0 port. I was basing my expectations on the specifications published on the package (here), which suggests a read speed of 80 MB/s and a write speed of 60 MB/s when connected via USB 3.0.

Is there anything that I need to do to attain the read/write speeds listed on the front of the package? I have a couple of other USB 3.0 devices which perform very well when connected to my USB 3.0 card, a Rocketfish™ - 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Interface Card that I purchased at Best Buy.

Regards,

The web spec was in error. It has been corrected. We apologize for the confusion.

So that we can get a better understanding of your system, please let us know the following:
  • Operating system version - include Service Pack or revision information
  • Computer make & model or motherboard make & model plus CPU model

This problem occurs on two different machines, my home machine, built on an EVGA P55 FTW motherboard running a Quad core Intel I7 CPU and my work machine, a Dell Studio XPS 9100 Desktop which is also equipped with a Quad core Intel I7 CPU. I also purchased two Rocketfish™ - 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Interface Cards and installed one on my home machine and the other on my work machine. I know that this card provides USB 3.0 support for my FreeAgent® GoFlex External drive because I am able to achieve over 100 MB/s "burst" rate as measured by HDTune Pro. I've attached the test results screen from the Seagate USB 3.0 external drive.

For some reason though, I cannot get above 30 MB/s with the RUSH 3.0 16GB USB Flash Drive.

2 computers both running Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit:

  1. Work computer, a Dell Studio XPS 9100 running Intel I7 quad core CPU
  2. Home computer built on a EVGA P55 FTW motherboard running Intel I7 quad core CPU

I've installed a Rocketfish™ - 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Interface Card on each computer.

When I attach a Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0 external drive I observed read "burst" speeds in excess of 100 MB/s on both computers as measured by HDTune Pro 4.5.

Running the same tests with the RUSH 3.0 16GB USB Flash Drive I could never get better than 30 MB/s read speeds.

From here
www.centon.com/pn/usb/rush/dsr8gb3-001

Rush 3.0 8GB USB
Write Speed: 60 MB/s
Read Speed: 80 MB/s

From benchmark
www.pendrivereviews.com/centon-rush-usb-3-0-benchmark-and-review/

28 MB/s read and 4 MB/s write speed.

Why it is so slow?
And even many shop, like a MyMemory.co.uk inform for speed
Read Speed: 40MB/s
Write Speed: 40MB/s

Still Centons itself inform much higher speeds, even when that stick is much slower than average USB 2.0 sticks.

I already asked from Centon custom service what is a real speed of that, but they wont answer. Thats why i dont be brave enough to but my money for that.

We are currently looking into the performance issue. Please be patient. We will respond when we have more information.

In the meantime, I am not sure why the review site showed such a low write speed. In my own testing on my home PC, I saw much better results.

If you are using with an operating system that supports exFAT like Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7, you can increase performance by formatting the drive as exFAT.

And finally a benchmark under Linux...

hobi, if your request was submitted to our Tech Support department, it is very likely that we have already responded. Our customer support department is also very likely to have responded as well. Many times when we have responded, the email was incorrectly blocked by a site filter or spam blocker. Occasionally we receive support requests with bad contact information. We do our best to contact everyone, but if the information is incomplete (user@???) or incorrect, there is not much we can do.

Good news! The performance issue has been addressed. As the benchmarks below will confirm, the drive will provide a maximum transfer rate of at least 60MB/sec. The benchmark results below were produced testing a DSR16GB3-001 on two different systems.

System #1
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
CPU: Intel Core i7-960 3.2GHz
RAM: 6GB
OS#1: Windows 7 64-bit
OS#2: Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit
OS#3: Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit
USB 3.0 IC: Renesas (NEC) uPD720200 (integrated on mainboard)

System #2:
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 925 2.8GHz
RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 32-bit
USB 3.0 IC: Renesas (NEC) uPD720200 (via PCIe X1 slot with RC-505 USB 3.0 add-on Card)

I received my replacement drive several weeks ago and just now tested it. I can confirm that the new drive does in fact perform at the speeds posted by Centon. Thank you for addressing this issue!
