moVex 4GB MP3 Player 4GB questions on firmware 3 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello I just got 2 of these devices. While it can access and try to play mp3's at 320 k encoding, it tends to skip slightly and sounds kinda bad, using 256 k encoding it sounds fine, with no noticeable skips or lag. I am sure lower encoding will also play fine. I just have most of my mp3's in 320 k so I'll have to re-encode them to use this device, not a deal breaker...just time consuming and annoying.

1) will upgrading the firmware help 320 k play normally, or is the device just not powerful to play them ?

2) is there a way to set the display to just have 1 color ?
as the disco light effect (changing from one color to the next is quite annoying)
Edit: according to the included manual (same as one on your website) the manual is for the 2GB drive, and says there is a setting for background color, but under system tools on the device there is no such option

3) will upgrading the firmware increase the transfer rate, or is it just going to be slow (like the speed of a usb 1 device)?

4) can you add a file that describes what the firmware upgrade will fix or improve ?

Thank you for your time, so far for the price the device is quite nice. I am setting one up for my girlfriend and will use the other at work.

Hello Duck Dodgers,

  • 320Kbps encoded MP3 files skipping
    • Your player supports 320Kbps encoded MP3 files. It should not skip during playback. Please contact Centon Tech Support for resolution to this issue. When contacting them, be sure to not only let them know the Centon p/n for the product you purchased, but also the numbers inscribed in the USB connector for your player.

Currently there is no firmware available from Centon. Use of any firmware obtained anywhere else than from the Centon website is unauthorized. Use of an unauthorized firmware may disable your player, and will void its warranty.

The backlight color function is supported on some players, but is not a guaranteed function.

No firmware update is available, however it would likely not impact transfer rate one way or the other.

If a firmware update becomes available, Centon will post information regarding the update on its website.
