What is BOM Control?
BOM level control can be insignificant or of the utmost importance depending on the use of a product in a specific application. For applications where quality is critical, Centon provides a fully controlled bill of materials solution.
Key components in the product will remain absolutely consistent each and every time the product is manufactured, ensuring repeatable consistency and quality across every production lot.
How it works
Every key component in your product is identified and locked at qualification. No substitutions, no equivalents, without your explicit knowledge and approval.
If any locked attribute changes, Centon issues a new part number — not a revision. You always know exactly what you are receiving before it ships.
Every production lot is traceable to its component sources. If a question arises in the field, we can trace it back completely — to the component, the lot, the supplier.
Qualification is an investment. BOM Control protects that investment by ensuring the product you approved never quietly becomes something different between production runs.
PCN Management
When a key component or attribute of a controlled BOM changes, Centon issues a new part number rather than a revision. Changes are always visible. Nothing is ever a silent revision.
This means your procurement team, your quality team, and your operations team always know what they're receiving — and when something has changed. It's a small discipline that eliminates an entire class of field problems.
Who relies on BOM Control
BOM Control is not a standard offering at most memory suppliers. Centon built this capability specifically for the customers and industries where consistency is not a preference — it is a requirement.
Applications
FDA-regulated devices, patient monitoring, diagnostic equipment, and implantable systems where component consistency is part of the regulatory record.
Extended lifecycleFlight management, navigation, and in-flight computing systems. Every component in a certified build must remain traceable and consistent.
DO-254 / DO-178PLCs, SCADA systems, factory automation, and embedded controllers operating in environments where unexpected behavior has real operational consequences.
Long-run productionConnected vehicle platforms, navigation, drive recorders, and intelligent transport systems requiring multi-year production consistency.
AEC-Q grade availableSystems requiring full supply chain traceability, TAA compliance, and domestic assembly. Controlled BOM pairs with our USA assembly capability.
TAA compliantHigh-availability server platforms and storage systems where hardware consistency across a large fleet reduces operational complexity and support burden.
Fleet-level consistencyControl Levels
Not every product requires the same degree of BOM control. Centon offers four levels — from basic form/fit/function consistency for consumer upgrades through fully locked component-level control for critical OEM builds.
Designed for end users upgrading personal consumer systems such as PCs, digital devices, and handhelds. A cost-effective upgrade path with consistent performance.
Designed for end users, businesses, and system integrators requiring consistent quality and performance when upgrading multiple devices or specifying higher performance configurations.
Designed for system integrators and builders who require design consistency and control while achieving the best price point for the solution being deployed.
Designed for system builders requiring a fully controlled bill of materials and the highest level of quality control. Every key component is locked — nothing changes without a new part number.
