Design approach

Flash sized to the application.

Medical equipment makers spend a great deal of time designing robust systems, with flash that fits both platform compatibility and the application workload.

Some applications need larger, faster grades of NAND flash. Others need neither high capacity nor high speed. So design starts with how the storage will be used and what files it must store and process.

NAND flash comes in many form factors and performance and reliability levels. Centon Electronics evaluates your workload, power management needs and environment (temperature, vibration) to build a solution that fits your use case.

Because the storage is mission critical, most medical NAND flash solutions need some level of customization to meet real-world workloads.

Engineering

What we evaluate for your device.

Workload analysis

NAND flash has a finite number of P/E cycles, which depends on the flash type (SLC, MLC, TLC, QLC, PLC). Whether your workload is read intensive, write intensive or mixed decides the flash type and any firmware tuning needed.

Data reliability

Specialized wear leveling, spare cell allocation, LDPC ECC, SMART analysis and end-to-end data protection give the highest data reliability for your application.

Environmental

NAND flash can be built for extreme conditions, but cost rises with the environment. We find the right balance of temperature and vibration resistance for your device.

BOM control

Approved once, locked after that.

Medical equipment makers need component control and reliability. Centon Electronics follows a strict manufacturing and procurement process that ensures 100% conformance once qualification is complete.

Once the NAND flash, controller and firmware are approved, your BOM is controlled and locked for a defined period, based on your needs and the application.

If supply continuity or a customer change request requires a BOM change, the original part number is retired and the new BOM gets a new part number, locked again.

Strategic partnerships with leading memory suppliers secure long-term BOM availability and supply continuity. With this sourcing strategy, and buffer inventory, Centon Electronics can guarantee longer product life cycles.

More on locked builds. See BOM Control.

Power integrity

Protected against sudden power loss.

Power interruptions happen in everyday equipment use. On medical equipment they are critical: patient records, test results, images and other sensitive data must be protected from unexpected power loss.

Centon Electronics NAND flash solutions include power loss data protection in all our storage memory solutions, using added circuitry and capacitors. The extra power lets the drive flush data held in DRAM and buffers, so data stays intact and is protected from corruption if the system fails or loses power.

Standards

Compliance with industry standards.

In medical and health care applications, patient information is vital to care and treatment, and there is no margin for error in storing it safely.

Centon Electronics is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified and strictly follows the standards set by JEDEC, the SD Association and the CFA.
